Alexis Sablone is a name synonymous with skateboarding, as her contributions to the sport have been nothing short of groundbreaking. Born in Old Saybrook, Connecticut in 1986, Sablone was introduced to skateboarding at the age of nine, and it quickly became her passion. She turned pro in 2009 and became known for her technical skills and innovative tricks. Sablone’s impressive competition record includes winning numerous skateboarding contests, such as X Games and World Championships, and being featured in several high-profile skateboarding films and documentaries.

Sablone’s impact on skateboarding goes beyond her impressive competition record. She has been an advocate for gender equality in the sport, using her platform to speak out against the gender pay gap and the lack of opportunities for female skateboarders. In 2017, she took a break from skateboarding to attend graduate school at MIT, where she earned a master’s degree in architecture. Even while pursuing her academic career, she continued to skate and compete, and she has since returned to the professional skateboarding circuit full-time.

Despite being a multi-hyphenate creative, Sablone continues to make waves in the skateboarding world. She recently debuted her first Converse signature model, the AS-1 Pro, which combines ’80s basketball and court silhouettes with modern technology and a performance-ready approach. The sneakers are crafted from premium white leather with dark green accents on the forefoot TPU pods, medial Converse logos, and CONS-branded heel tabs. The AS-1 Pro also features model-specific markings on the ankles and tongues, and Converse’s first-ever skateboarding cupsole that offers increased cushioning and enhanced board control. The sneakers will be available globally through Converse and select retailers starting May 2.

It’s worth noting that this isn’t Sablone’s first collaboration with Converse. In fact, she previously released a custom version of the One Star Pro, which was more of a PE than a signature shoe. However, the AS-1 Pro is her first official signature model, and it’s clear that she’s poured her heart and soul into the design.
